Sabrina Singh appointed as the Deputy Press Secretary in the White House.

Important Points to Remember :

  • Sabrina Singh has been named as the White House Deputy Press Secretary.
  • Ms. Singh served as Senior Spokesperson for Mike Bloomberg's presidential campaign and National Press Secretary for Cory Booker's presidential campaign.
  • She previously served as Deputy Communications Director for the Democratic National Committee, Spokesperson for American Bridge's Trump War Room, and Regional Communications Director on Hillary Clinton's 2016 presidential campaign.
  • She has also worked at SKDKnickerbocker, served as Communications Director for Rep. Jan Schakowsky, and worked at various Democratic committees.

Subramoni Iyer appointed as the BPCL Kochi Refinery's new chief.

Important Points to Remember :

  • MR Subramoni Iyer has taken over as the unit head of BPCL Kochi Refinery. As the new Chief General Manager, he would lead the largest public sector refinery in the country.
  • Iyer was Chief General Manager (Refinery Operations), heading the refinery operations of Kochi Refinery.
  • The BPCL Kochi Refinery embarked on its journey in 1966 with a capacity of 50,000 barrels per day. Formerly known as Cochin Refineries Limited, the refinery was originally established as a joint venture in collaboration with Phillips Petroleum Corporation, USA.

Bhavesh V Patel is appointed as the chief executive and chairman by the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas.

Important Points to Remember :

  • Bhavesh V Patel is the chief executive officer and chairman of the management board of Lyondell Basel Industries, one of the largest plastics, chemicals and refining companies in the world.
  • Patel was named the CEO and chairman of the company's management board in January 2015.
  • Prior to joining LyondellBasell, he held multiple leadership positions for Chevron Corporation and its affiliates for more than 20 years.

Subodh Kumar Jaiswal is appointed as the new CISF chief.

Important Points to Remember :

  • The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) appointed a new chief in Subodh Kumar Jaiswal,who took over as the 28th director general of the force .
  • Earlier Jaiswal was serving as Director General of Police of Maharashtra.
  • Jaiswal had served at the Special Protection Group, an elite force that protects the prime minister.
  • He had also served as Joint Secretary and Addl. Secretary in the Cabinet Secretariat.
  • Jaiswal joins the force at a time when the government is trying to start operations at a lot of smaller airports across the country under a regional connectivity scheme called Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik (UDAN).

Sumona Guha appointed as a senior director for South Asia and Tarun Chhabra as senior director for Technology and National Security.

Important Points to Remember :

  • Sumona Guha is currently serving as senior vice president at Albright Stonebridge Group.
  • She was co-chair of the South Asia foreign policy working group during the Biden-Harris campaign.
  • Tarun Chhabra, who has been appointed senior director for Technology and National Security, is a senior fellow at the Centre for Security and Emerging Technology at Georgetown University.
  • Chhabra had also served on the National Security Council staff as director for Strategic Planning and director for Human Rights and National Security Issues during the Obama-Biden Administration.
  • Shanthi Kalathil as Coordinator for Democracy and Human Rights in his National Security Council. She is currently the senior director of the International Forum for Democratic Studies at the National Endowment for Democracy.

A High-Level Committee headed by the Prime Minister constituted to commemorate the 125th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose national.

  • A High-Level Committee, headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has been constituted to commemorate the 125th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.
  • The High-Level Committee will decide on the activities for a one-year-long commemoration, beginning 23rd January 2021.
  • The Members of the Committee include distinguished citizens, historians, authors, experts, family members of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, as well as eminent persons associated with Azad Hind Fauj.
  • The Committee will lend guidance to the commemoration activities in Delhi, Kolkata, and other places associated with Netaji and Azad Hind Fauj, both in India as well as overseas.


Veteran Congress leader and former Gujarat Chief Minister Madhavsinh Solanki passes away.

Important Points to Remember :

  • Former Gujarat chief minister and ex-Union minister Madhavsinh Solanki (94) passed away at his residence in Gandhinagar.
  • Born on July 30, 1927, the nonagenarian leader was the chief minister of Gujarat four times and also Union external affairs minister.
  • Under his leadership, the Congress rode to power in the Gujarat assembly in 1985, winning 149 of the 182 seats –- an electoral feat that has not been matched so far.

Manoj General SN Bhaskar passes away.

Important Points to Remember :

  • Major General SN Bhaskar ‘Padma Shri’ of the Corps of Electronics and Mechanical Engineers, passed away at his residence in Banjara Hills.
  • Commissioned into the MCEME on Dec. 10, 1948, he was awarded ‘Ati Vishisht Seva Medal’ on Jan. 26, 1979, and retired on November 30, 1980.
  • He was the Chairman & MD of Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) and turned it around into a success story for which he was awarded Padma Shri on Jan. 26, 1984.

Michael Apted passes away at 79.

Important Points to Remember :

  • British filmmaker Michael Apted the man behind the ‘Up’ documentaries has died at the age of 79.
  • Apted also directed Hollywood movies ranging from the 1999 James Bond blockbuster 'The World is Not Enough' to the Loretta Lynn country singer biography 'Coal Miner's Daughter' and dozens of TV shows, including episodes of British soap 'Coronation Street' in 1967.

Mamata Banerjee inaugurates 26th KIFF.

Important Points to Remember :

  • Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee inaugurated the 26th Kolkata International Film Festival ( KIFF) and allowed full occupancy of cinema halls in the state.
  • Legendary filmmaker Satyajit Ray’s classic 'Apur Sansar' will be the inaugural film of the festival in which 131 movies from 45 countries will be screened till January 13.
