Matam Venkata Rao appointed as the Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer Of the Central Bank Of India.

  • State-run Central Bank of India appointed Matam Venkata Rao as its new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer.
  • Rao till now held the position of Executive Director at Canara Bank. He is appointed for a period of 3 years.
  • Born on July 3, 1965, Venkata Rao is a postgraduate in agriculture from Sri Venkateshwara Agriculture College, Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh.
  • He is a Certified Associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers.
  • As the Executive Director of Canara Bank for more than three years, he played a pivotal role in the bank's progress and in the amalgamation of Syndicate Bank with Canara Bank.

  • World Wildlife Day is celebrated every year on 3rd March.
  • The day is observed to celebrate and raise awareness of the world’s wild animals and plants.
  • On 20th December 2013, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed the 3rd of March - the day of the signature of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora in 1973, as the World Wildlife Day.
  •  This year World Wildlife Day is being celebrated under the theme 'Forests and Livelihoods: Sustaining People and Planet'.
  • It seeks to highlight the central role of forests, forest species, and ecosystem services in sustaining the livelihoods of hundreds of millions of people particularly of Indigenous and local communities with historic ties to forested and forest-adjacent areas.

3rd day of Jan Aushadhi Diwas week celebrated On 3rd March.

  • On the 3rd day of Jan Aushadhi Diwas week, a team comprising of BPPI, Jan Aushadhi Mitra, and Jan Aushadhi Kendra's owners organized a special awareness program on the theme ‘Teach Them Young’, across the country.
  • As a part of this activity, Health and Hygiene education programs were conducted to make the students aware of the various high-quality products available at the Jan Aushadhi kendras at much lower prices.

MoU & Agreement News 

SpiceJet ties-up with WheelTug for reserving electric taxi system production slots.

Important Points to Remember:

  • Budget carrier SpiceJet has tied-up with WheelTug Plc for reserving 400 production slots for the electric taxi system.
  • The application of such a system helps move an aircraft forward or backward without powering its engines or using external tugs.
  • The electric taxi system will enable SpiceJet in saving fuel, reducing carbon emissions as well as noise levels, and improving fleet utilization, thereby directly improving the bottom line.
  • The WheelTug system places high-torque motors in the nose wheels of the aircraft. 

Cabinet approved MoU with France on renewable energy cooperation.

Important Points to Remember:

  • The Union Cabinet signs a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India and France on renewable energy cooperation.
  • "The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi was apprised of the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between India and the French Republic in the field of renewable energy cooperation. The MoU was signed in January 2021
  • The objective of the MoU is to establish the basis for the promotion of bilateral cooperation in the field of new and renewable energy on the basis of mutual benefit, equality, and reciprocity. It covers technologies relating to solar, wind, hydrogen, and biomass energy.
  • The MoU entails exchange and training of scientific and technical personnel; exchange of scientific and technological information and data; organization of workshops and seminars; transfer of equipment, know-how, and technology; development of joint research and technological projects.

Cabinet approved  Memorandum of Understanding between India and Fiji for cooperation in the field of Agriculture and Allied Sectors.

Important Points to Remember:

  • The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has approved the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare of the Republic of India and the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Fiji for cooperation in the field of Agriculture and Allied Sectors.
  • Under the MoU, a Joint Working Group (JWG) will be constituted to set down procedures and plan and recommend programs of cooperation towards achieving its aims through the Executing agencies of the two countries.
  • The JWG will hold its meeting alternately in India and Fiji once every two years.
  • This MoU will come into effect on the date of its signing and will remain in force for a period of 5(five) years.

Indian Air Force to participate for the first time in Exercise Desert Flag beginning in UAE.

Important Points to Remember:

  • Indian Air Force (IAF) will participate for the first time in Exercise Desert Flag which is beginning in Al-Dhafra airbase in UAE.
  • Exercise Desert Flag is an annual multi-national large force employment warfare exercise hosted by the United Arab Emirates Air Force.
  • The Indian Air Force is participating in the Exercise along with air forces of the United Arab Emirates, United States of America, France, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, and Bahrain. The exercise will conclude on the 27th of this month.
  •  The Indian Air Force is participating with six Sukhoi Su-30 MKI, two C-17, and one IL-78 tanker aircraft. C-17 Globemaster will provide support for induction or de-induction of the IAF contingent. Su-30 MKI aircraft will undertake long-range ferries, routing directly from India to the exercise area with aerial refueling support from IL-78 tanker aircraft.
  • The aim of the exercise is to provide operational exposure to the participating forces while training them to undertake simulated air combat operations in a controlled environment.

India, Norway to jointly work in marine spatial planning for the next 5 years.

Important Points to Remember:

  • India and Norway have agreed to jointly work in the area of marine spatial planning in the oceanic space for the next five years. 
  • The two countries have decided to extend support for sustainable ocean resource utilization to advance economic and social development in coastal areas. 
  • The initiative known as Marine Spatial Planning will be implemented by the Ministry of Earth Sciences through National Centre for Coastal Research for India.
  • This is a part of the Indo-Norway Integrated Ocean Initiative under the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two countries in 2019.
  • Lakshadweep and Puducherry have been identified as pilot sites for the project.
