Vice Admiral R Hari Kumar PVSM, AVSM, VSM takes over as Flag Officer Commanding-In-Chief Western Naval Command.

Important Points to Remember:

  • Vice Admiral R Hari Kumar, Param Vishisht Seva Medal (PVSM), Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM), VSM took over as the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief (FOC-in-C) of the Western Naval Command on 28 Feb 2021 at Mumbai.
  • Vice Admiral R Hari Kumar, an alumnus of the National Defence Academy was commissioned into the Indian Navy on 01 Jan 1983.
  • He specialized in Gunnery and has commanded five ships including a Destroyer and the aircraft carrier INS Viraat.

Vice Admiral A.B. Singh to take over as FOC-in-C of Eastern Naval Command (ENC).

Important Points to Remember:

  • Vice Admiral Ajendra Bahadur Singh will command the Eastern Naval Command (ENC) in a ceremonial parade at the Naval Base.
  • Vice Admiral Singh will take over as Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief (FOC-in-C) Eastern Naval Command from Vice Admiral Atul Kumar Jain, who will serve as Chief of Integrated Defense Staff Chief of Staff in New Delhi Committee (CISC).

  • National Science Day is being observed on 28 February every year.
  • The day is celebrated every year on the 28th of February to commemorate the discovery of the ‘Raman Effect’.
  • On this day, Physicist  CV Raman announced the discovery of the 'Raman Effect' for which he was awarded the Nobel Prize in 1930.
  • The day is aimed at spreading the message of the importance of science and its application in human life.  The theme for National Science Day 2021 is  ‘Future of Science and Technology and Innovation: Impact on Education Skills and Work'.

PSLV-C51 launched  Brazil's Amazonia-1, 18 other satellites.

Important Points to Remember:

  • India's Polar rocket successfully launched Amazonia-1 of Brazil and 18 other satellites from the spaceport here, in the first mission of the year for space agency ISRO.
  • The Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle PSLV-C51 lifted off at around 10.24 am from the first launch pad of the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SHAR) and first injected into orbit primary payload Amazonia-1 about 17 minutes later.
  • The 637-kg Amazonia-1 which became the first Brazilian satellite to be launched from India is an optical earth observation satellite of the National Institute for Space Research (INPE).
