  • Veteran journalist, writer, and Padma Shri awardee Turlapati Kutumba Rao passed away. He was 89-years old.
  • Born on August 10, 1933, in Vijayawada. He was the editor of Andhra Jyothi Telegu daily.
  • Mr. Rao was a personal secretary to Tanguturi Prakasam, the first Chief Minister of Andhra State.
  • He won laurels for translating into Telugu the speeches of many national leaders and stalwarts.
  • Mr. Rao had addressed a record number of public meetings, which earned him a slot in the Guinness Book of World Records. He authored biographies of several important people, patriots and freedom fighters.
  • He was honored with Padma Shri in 2002 for his valuable contribution to journalism, literature, and arts.

Celebrated writer Ved Mehta passes away.

Important Points to Remember :

  • Ved Mehta, a longtime writer for The New Yorker whose best-known work, spanning a dozen volumes, explored the vast, turbulent history of modern India through the intimate lens of his own autobiography, passed away in Manhattan. He was 86.
  • The cause was complications of Parkinson’s disease.
  • His more than two dozen books included volumes of reportage on India, among them 'Walking the Indian Streets' (1960), 'Portrait of India' (1970) and 'Mahatma Gandhi and His Apostles' (1977), as well as explorations of philosophy, theology, and linguistics.
