Wipro appointed Philippe Dintrans as head of Domain & Consulting, iDEAS.

  • Wipro has appointed Cognizant’s Philippe Dintrans as head of Domain & Consulting for its Integrated Digital, Engineering, and Application Services business or iDEAS.
  • Dintrans was the Industries Consulting leader at Cognizant.
  • He has led many large consulting engagements covering business, digital, and IT transformation, as well as change management for major clients.
  • Dintran had key leadership roles in McKinsey, Booz Allen & Hamilton, and Morgan Stanley.

Jaideep Bhatnagar takes over as Principal Director General, Press Information Bureau.

Important Points to Remember:

  • Mr. Jaideep Bhatnagar has taken over as Principal Director General, Press Information Bureau.
  • Mr. Bhatnagar is an Officer of the Indian Information Service belonging to 1986 Batch.
  • He has earlier served in Doordarshan as Head of the Commercial, Sales, and Marketing Division.
  • He also served as Prasar Bharati Special Correspondent in West Asia.
  • He later went on to head the News Services Division of All India Radio.
  • Mr. Bhatnagar takes over from Mr. Kuldeep Singh Dhatwalia who has superannuated.

V.S. Natarajan gets a lifetime award.

Important Points to Remember:

  • Senior geriatrician V.S. Natarajan was presented with the lifetime achievement award at the Global Congress of Physicians of Indian Origin through a virtual meeting held on February 27 and 28.
  • Dr. Natarajan, who had been in the field for more than 40 years, was presented with a trophy, a citation, and a cash prize of ₹1 lakh.
  • The other medical specialists presented with the awards included Pravin Agarwal, Dr. Rohini Handa, Dr. Navin Dang, Dr. Maligail Ramkrishna Girinath, and Dr. Madan Mohan Reddy.

Russia has launched a satellite to monitor the climate in the Arctic.

Important Points to Remember:

  • Russia has launched its space satellite Arktika-M on a mission to monitor the climate and environment in the Arctic amid a push by the Kremlin to expand the country's activities in the region.
  • The Arctic has warmed more than twice as fast as the global average over the last three decades and Moscow is seeking to develop the energy-rich region, investing in the Northern Sea Route for shipping across its long northern flank as ice melts.
  • The satellite successfully reached its intended orbit after being launched from Kazakhstan's Baikonur cosmodrome by a Soyuz rocket, Dmitry Rogozin, the head of Russia's Roscosmos space agency, said in a post on Twitter.

MOU Signed Between Directorate of Indian Army Veterans (DIAV) and Mrs. Veena Nayyar.

  • Directorate of Indian Army Veterans (DIAV) and Mrs. Veena Nayyar, wife of Late Vice Admiral KK Nayyar, former Vice Chief of Naval Staff signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to pledge Rs Two Crores for welfare schemes run by the Army, Navy, and Air Force.  
  • The main objective of the MoU is to facilitate various welfare schemes instituted for Next of Kins of service personnel who died in harness.
  • The welfare schemes include Education Scholarships and Computer Grant forwards and widows of deceased service personnel, Grant for Higher Education of widows, and Marriage grant for widows and daughters.

Nitin Gadkari launched the Real-Time Monitoring System of Toll Plazas.

Important Points to Remember:

  • Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari launched the Real-Time Monitoring System of Toll Plazas at a function in New Delhi.
  • The government has made FASTag mandatory from the 15th February midnight and any vehicle not fitted with it will be charged double the toll at electronic toll plazas across the country.

England appointed  Marcus Trescothick as batting coach.

Important Points to Remember:

  • Former England opening batsman Marcus Trescothick has been named batting coach of the senior men's team, by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).
  • Trescothick, who played 76 tests for England and helped them win the Ashes in 2005, will step down as assistant coach of Somerset to take up his new role.
  • Former New Zealand off-spinner Jeetan Patel has been named England's spin bowling coach and youth team head coach Jon Lewis has been promoted to the role of the senior team's pace bowling coach.
  • Former Yorkshire off-spinner and Gloucestershire head coach Richard Dawson will replace Lewis in the reconfigured elite pathway coach role.

Vinesh Phogat bags Gold Medal in Ukraine wrestling event.

Important Points to Remember:

  • Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat has won the gold medal in the women's 53-kg category at XXIV Outstanding Ukrainian Wrestlers and Coaches Memorial in Kyiv, Ukraine.
  • Vinesh Phogat defeated world number seven Vanesa Kaladzinskaya of Belarus in the finals to win the gold medal and make a winning return to her first competitive outing since the Covid-19 induced lockdown.
  • Vinesh has already booked a place in the Tokyo Olympics for the 53kg category.
  • Vinesh is the only Indian woman wrestler to have qualified for the Tokyo Games.

Dr. Purnima Jalihal co-ordinated the first-ever ocean thermal gradient-based desalination plant in Lakshadweep.

Important Points to Remember:

  • Dr. Purnima Jalihal, a senior scientist who heads the Energy and Fresh Water group in the National Institute of Ocean Technology under the Ministry of Earth Sciences.  
  • She coordinated the first-ever ocean thermal gradient-based desalination plant at Kavaratti islands in Lakshadweep.
  •  Dr. Jalihal was awarded the Vishwakarma medal in 2006 by the Indian National Science Academy. Apart from this Dr. Jalihal is engaged in several other clean and green energy projects.
